Hello,

I just purchased the above pencil drawing, which is signed and dated F.S.Church.  It is also noted and signed in the old mat area, "Pandora, From the Original Painting.  F.S. Church."  This appears to have been done later than the drawing, though the signor of the mat inked in a "copyright" below the signature on the drawing.  It's clearly the same old ink as that on the mat.  I'm pretty certain that this is a drawing by Frederick Stuart Church, and I think I found a same or very similar etching in reproduction over at allposters.com.

Is anyone aware of a Church expert in the States who might be able to authenticate this piece?  I can include more detailed photos if it would help here.  The work is clearly of the period, but I'm uncertain whether it is by Church's hand or a contemporary copy.  I found the inked copyright addition odd, but I was able to find a watercolor example by Church that also has copyright noted near the signature.

Thanks,
Jeff
